SEATTLE — In no time at all, Climate Pledge Arena will soon welcome concertgoers and an electric Kraken fanbase.
Before would-be guests can get inside, they will have to show proof of vaccination and there’s only one way to go about doing it.
Partnering with “CLEAR,” Climate Pledge Arena will require anyone attending an event to download the company’s “Health Pass” to their phone. From there, users will select ‘Climate Pledge Arena’ from a list of venues and then take a photo of their ID and vaccination card. Finally, a selfie will complete the process giving a QR code that will be scanned once at the ticketing gate.
“I was just on the site for a walkthrough and we’re ready,” said Climate Pledge Arena Assistant General Manager Don Graham.
For kids ages 12 to 13, however, they will have to bring a physical copy of their vaccination card. For those between the ages of 14 and 17, they will need to download the app on to their phone. From there, their parent will have to create a ‘minor account’ under their own account and then pass along those credentials to their child.
Unlike other venues around Seattle, Climate Pledge Arena is not accepting negative test results in light of being fully vaccinated. The only exceptions to this rule are medical or religious exemptions, with proper documentation, and a negative test result within the past 48 hours.
“We haven’t really gotten too many of them yet so we haven’t really seen that much,” said Graham of season ticket holders inquiring about exemptions.
CLEAR is already used at Lumen Field for both Seahawks games and Sounders matches. With King County’s vaccination mandate going into effect Oct. 25 for most indoor dining and other activities, the app can be used in those instances, as well.
So far, Climate Pledge Arena has upwards of 65,000 ticket holders in its database not including single event tickets for concerts. Currently, 37 upcoming shows are selling tickets. All season ticket holders and single ticket holders will receive an email about the new policy.
The arena, which recently underwent a massive expansion and renovation, will hold a benefit concert Oct. 19 with The Foo Fighters and Death Cab for Cutie.
Coldplay will then officially open the venue Oct. 23. The highly-anticipated home opener of the Kraken takes place the next day.
