Local school celebrates Kids for Cans contest win with a "Chicken Dance"
YAKIMA, Wash. - A local school is celebrating their big win in KIMA’s Kids for Cans contest.
KIMA’s very own Jake Taylor and Alan Sillence visited the Christ the Teacher Catholic school to help the students celebrate by joining the assembly in a "Chicken Dance", Tuesday.
The students collected more than 10,000 pounds, which averaged roughly 65 pounds per student. Principal Heather Remillard promised she’d dress up as a chicken if they won.
The school also gets to hold onto the KIMA traveling trophy for winning the competition. This is the school’s second win in a row.
This year, 24 schools participated, and combined, were able to collect 50,000 pounds of food for those in need.
