YAKIMA, Wash.- March is National Nutrition Month and the registered dietitians at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC) are excited to celebrate a month of healthy choices.
The theme of this year's National Nutrition Month is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.”
A play on words to remind each of us that we literally hold the tool to make healthier food choices.
"We emphasize that they are in control of the choices that they make so we show them what the recommendations are but then together, we work to set a goal that's specific to their needs," said Lisette Llamas, a registered dietitian at YVFWC.
And in honor of National Nutrition Month the YVFWC will be hosting several events, including a free “Taste the Rainbow Fruit and Vegetables” event on March 29th from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at their new teaching kitchen in Toppenish.
A Spanish version of the event will take place on March 31st from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the same location.
The event will allow children between the ages of 4 and 8 to taste a variety of produce, make a yogurt dip, and take home a nutritious snack.
