Yakima police traveling the region to recruit new officers
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Police Department says they are down 12 officers in June and are working hard to fill those positions.
Yakima police now have a dedicated recruiting officer, Officer Hailie Meyers, and a fancy new car for her to do her job. The officer can still hand out tickets, but said she is focusing on creating interest in the department.
Officer Meyers travels to different recruiting events at colleges across Washington and neighboring states.
Meyers said the department is hoping to hire as many qualified people as possible over the next three months. She said they're trying to catch people interested with law enforcement and let them know the department is hiring.
