Police arrest 16-year-old in Yakima Greenway rape investigation
YAKIMA, Wash. - Police say they have arrested a 16-year-old who raped a teen on the Yakima Greenway.
According to police reports, Yakima Police Department (YPD) officers went to Sarg Hubbard Park on a sexual assault report around 12:22 p.m., Wednesday.
Police interviewed the 19-year-old victim at the park. She said she had been jogging on the Greenway path just south of Sarg Hubbard Park when someone attacked and raped her.
The attacker then ran away, according to reports.
Upon investigation, police found a suspect who matched the attacker's description near Kiwanis Park.
YPD officers arrested the 16-year-old suspect. He is staying at the Yakima County Juvenile Detention Center for investigation of 2nd degree rape.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and was released.
