City of Yakima Declares State of Emergency

YAKIMA, Wash—The city of Yakima is declaring a state of emergency because of heavy snow fall.

“The emergency declaration, which has been signed by Mayor Kathy Coffey, allows the City to call in additional help if necessary to respond to the severe winter weather we are experiencing,” said City Manager Cliff Moore. “The declaration also allows the City to potentially be eligible for state and federal funding to help the City cover costs associated with its response to the severe winter weather.”

City Officials are encouraging people to stay off roads if possible, limit time outside, watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia, and avoid carbon monoxide poisoning by not heating homes using gas stove tops
