Yakima looking to start North 1st Street project this spring
YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima City Council say they are moving forward with a project to clean up North First Street, a part of town known for crime, drugs and prostitution.
Council members have been talking about a revitalization project on North First since 2011.
They said they now have enough money to start phase one of the project after getting almost $4 million in grants.
Phase one focuses on N Street to State Route 12 and includes working on roadways and sidewalks, upgrading street lights and crosswalks for safety and creating a landscaped median.
The city said they hope to start work in the spring.
