YAKIMA, Wash. - One person is without a home after the outside of a house mysteriously caught fire.
The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) went to the home located at the 600 block of N 51st Avenue around 11:30 p.m., Wednesday to find flames coming from the roof and the front of the house.
Two people had been inside the home when the fire started, a resident and the resident's caretaker. The caretaker helped the occupant exit the house safely, reports said.
The caretaker informed fire crews that he saw flames outside the house and tried to extinguish it with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
The fire appeared to start on the outside and spread quickly to the attic and interior of the home. Crews extinguished the fire in just over 45 minutes.
YFD reports said while the home had working smoke detectors, they did not go off initially due to the location of the fire outside the house.
Fire officials said the fire caused enough damage to the outside of the house, the attic and parts of the interior causing the home to be unfit for living.
No injuries were reported in this fire.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire as it is not known at this time.
