Yakima firefighters hosting their first coffee break with the community at Starbucks
YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima firefighters are making an effort to connect with their community by inviting people to coffee.
The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) will host their first ever "Take 5 with a Firefighter" event Thursday at Starbucks, located at 5906 Summitview Avenue. Local firefighters will be there to chat with people from noon until 1:30 p.m., according to a city news release.
Captain Jeff Pfaff of YFD said the event is an opportunity for locals to visit with Yakima firefighters and learn more about what they do, similar to Coffee with a Cop events.
Pfaff said the fire department hopes to host more of these events if the first one is a success.
The city said firefighters are holding other various events this week during National Fire Protection Month, including a fire safety class.
Through this class, firefighters aim to increase awareness of growing fire dangers in homes as the weather cools down.
The Fall Fire Safety Prevention class will be held from noon until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, the news release noted.
More information on these events can be found at YFD's Facebook page.
