YAKIMA, Wash. - City council taking steps to increase solar power use throughout the City of Yakima, which could save locals money.
Yakima City Council is teaming up with Spark Northwest for the Solarize Yakima Project.
Spark Northwest is a non-profit that works to make it easier for people throughout Washington to invest in solar energy. They would teach homeowners and business owners about solar power.
They said using this renewable energy could save some locals a lot of money in the long run. In some cases, bringing power bills down to less than $15 a month.
"The effort that Spark Northwest is putting forward to try and make energy usage throughout the region more efficient is what this particular campaign is all about," said Yakima Spokesperson Randy Beehler.
The project could start as soon as July and at no cost to the City of Yakima.
