Yakima 4th of July in jeopardy
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima 4th of July committee is in need of sponsors for this years event.
Volunteers who make up the committee are in financial need after City officials announced budget cuts that took away the $25,000 contribution for the 4th of July celebration.
“The 4th of July committee has been out looking for financial support to try to make up for the lost contribution from the city,” said 4th of July committee member and president of Central Washington State Fair, Greg Stewart. “But we aren’t having much luck.”
State Fair donates the facilities which include the people who help set up and clean up afterwards.
Stewart added, " The money from the city was used to purchase the fireworks and helped cover other costs for the day-long event."
One option would be charging families to attend but the committee is hoping they wont have to do that.
The committee and Stewart will be making their final decision about the event at the end of January.
