A car crashed into a power pole and caught fire on Wednesday evening in Yakima.

Police and fire officials responded to the area of 16th Ave. and Washington Ave.

The car had crashed into a power pole and was catching fire.

Fire officials then hosed the fire down.

A driver accused of street racing is not only facing some charges, but he was also injured and even caused a power outage when he crashed.

According to Yakima Police, two cars were racing South on 16th Avenue when one of them lost control and hit a power pole.

The other car took off and wasn't found by police.

The driver who crashed into the pole has minor injuries and was arrested for reckless driving.

Sgt. Ryan Yates with YPD says they've seen a lot of racing and reckless driving going on throughout the city.

He adds, "These are the type of actions that we're trying to get in front of, we're trying to get more traffic enforcement to stop these type of actions cause this is exactly how it- how it turns out. We're just glad that there wasn't any major injuries that occurred."

When the driver crashed intro the pole, it was knocked over and damaged a car parked nearby.

No one was in that car at the time.

16th Avenue was shut down for hours with only one lane open.
