OLYMPIA, Wash. - Online voter registration hit a record high in Washington state this past weekend, topping over 23,000 people in a single day.
The Office of the Secretary of State released numbers Monday showing the new record for one-day online registration in Washington state, hit 23,167 compared to the old record of 13,109.
Officals said social media assisted greatly in boosting the online voter registration number. The website to register to vote, MyVote.wa.gov, their main portal was jammed with business on Sunday after the second presidential debate.
Officials also want to remind people that midnight October 10, is the deadline to register to vote online in the state of Washington.
However people can also send mail-in ballots throughout today with an October 11 postmark since October 10 marks a federal holiday.
Also, the auditor's office located in the Yakima County Courthouse at 128 N 2nd St will accept in-person registrations until October 31.
“We are delighted with the new record number of registered voters being set every single day,” said Secretary of State Kim Wyman. “Sunday’s surge was nothing short of amazing, and it looks certain that we’ll have a robust turnout. That level of voter engagement is so good for self-government. We need to hear all voices.”
