    Wapato mayors will now make $1 a year after city council vote.

    WAPATO, Wash.- WAPATO, Wash.- Future mayors of Wapato will now only make one dollar a year. After city council decided to make the change this week.

    The change doesn't affect the current mayor. Who makes $1,000 a year right now but city leaders said Dora Alvarez-Roa hasn't taken any of that money.

    City administrator Juan Orozco said the change will make the mayor more of a volunteer position and will save the city thousands of dollars a year.

    When he was the former mayor, Orozco made $12,000 a year.

    The salary reduction will go into effect during the next term in 2020.
