Wapato dad with seven kids, married for 19 years, has now seemingly vanished

Wapato dad with seven kids, married for 19 years, has now seemingly vanished.

WAPATO, Wash.- It's summer vacation for more of the Canales family household. Blanca Canales is a substitute teacher and her kids waiting to start school.

They laugh at each other's jokes in the living room, but there's one laugh that isn't heard. Blanca's husband, Jose Canales, who’s been missing for almost two weeks now.

“It's really hard when you have seven kids and you're trying to maintain the household and you're trying to go out there and put flyers and trying to find answers,” she said.

Blanca said they've been married for 19 years and this has never happened before.

Being a substitute teacher, she hasn't been working during the summer and said two of her kids have gotten jobs to help out with the costs with the younger ones helping her out at home.

“If I’m breaking down my second oldest daughter. She will usually comfort me and if I see my kidding breaking down then I’ll comfort them, but we try to keep strong,” Blanca said.

Blanca said the last place her husband was seen was with his truck at the Guadalupana a restaurant in Harrah.

Where he went after that remains a mystery.

She said she's put up flyers with his face around the Harrah/Wapato area, but something doesn't feel right.

“I feel like something happened to him. When we went to Harrah, we put a poster up and someone literally tore it up into pieces,” Blanca said.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office has a detective on the case to find Jose.

But Casey Schilperoot with the sheriff's office said they have no leads at the moment.

“Deciding where to go look and send our resources out to try to find them,” he said. “That's the most difficult part.”

Blanca said her family is preparing for the worst. That her kids may never see their father again.

But even if that's the case, she hopes that someone will come forward and tell them what happened.

“Don't do it for me. Don't do it for him. Do it for his kids, because his kids need closure,” she said.

Blanca said if you have any information on where Jose Canales might be, you can call the Yakima County Sheriff's Office to report it at (509) 574-2500.
