U.S. Marshals task force recovers missing girl
YAKIMA, Wash. —
A U.S. Marshals task force recovered a missing girl in Yakima on Friday.
According to the U.S. Marshals, their Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force recovered the missing teen on the 600 block of South 5th Avenue.
The 16-year-old girl had been reported missing from a group home back on Aug. 7.
Officials say they then came up with a person of interest identified as Miguel Bravo Mejia, 40, and kept surveillance on the area where he was believed to live.
Officials say Mejia has a long criminal history and was wanted on nine outstanding warrants.
When he returned to his residence, Mejia spotted officers and tried to run by climbing over fences and into nearby yards.
He was apprehended not long after.
The missing teen was found in the back of the vehicle.
Mejia was booked into the Yakima County Jail on outstanding warrants and several new charges.
