EAST SELAH, Wash. - Fourteen vehicles have been destroyed in a brush fire that scorched more than 300 acres in East Selah.

Deputy from the Fire Training Center Michael Daniels said this fire started around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday in the area of Lucas Road.

"We determined the fire was spreading due to a little bit of wind today pretty significantly to the east. We went ahead and reacted. We had to call in some additional resources."

The fire also threatened seven homes in the area, but fire crews were able to control the fire before flames reached any houses.

The Selah Fire Department informed Action News the fire was caused by a small controlled burn that quickly got out of hand.

Fire crews remained in the area over Tuesday night to monitor smoke and ensure flames didn't spark back up again.
