Union Gap shooting suspect facing assault, other charges

UNION GAP, Wash. – Police say a suspect in a shooting that has left one woman critically hurt is a convicted felon who now faces multiple charges.

Police said officers arrested 24-year-old Sandra Salazar after a 29-year-old Yakima woman was shot at the 2900 block of 5th Street in Union Gap around 2 a.m.

Police say the victim is clinging to life after being shot in the stomach. Reports state the injury is life threatening and the victim is in critical condition at a local hospital.

According to court documents, the suspect also pointed the gun at another victim but did not shoot him.

While searching the area where the shooting occurred, police said they found a gun that had been stolen back in March.

Salazar now faces charges of first degree assault, unlawful possession of a gun and possession of a stolen gun.

Police say a motive for this shooting is currently unknown.
