PROSSER, Wash. — One woman and her son are in the hospital, and their dog dead after police say 3 other dogs attacked them just west of Prosser proper.
According to on scene deputies with the Benton County Sheriff's Office, a neighbor had left the gate open at a home on the Old Inland Empire Highway, which let the dogs out.
Deputies say the three dogs, generally described as pit bulls, then attacked the 35-year-old woman, her 14-year-old son and their dog before returning home.
The victims are being treated at Prosser Memorial Hospital and their status is unknown at this time. Deputies say the owner, while distraught, did surrender the dogs willingly to be euthanized by animal control. Despite the gate being left open by a neighbor, deputies say the owner may face charges.
