Two former Toppenish priests accused of child sexual abuse
TOPPENISH, Wash. - A woman is taking the Catholic Diocese of Yakima and a church in Toppenish to court, claiming two former priests sexually abused her when she was a child.
She has filed a lawsuit in Yakima County Superior Court.
The lawsuit was filed Monday against the Catholic Diocese of Yakima and St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish, according to court documents.
The lawsuit states Rev. Michael J. Simpson and an unnamed priest sexually abused the child between the years 1954 and 1960 while they were working at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
The priests were allegedly involved in sexual, physical and emotional abuse toward the victim.
We contacted the Catholic Diocese of Yakima and they said they are shocked and sad to hear about the report on the abuse which they say is horrible and are praying for her healing. They also say they will cooperate with the lawsuit process, and encourage folks to come forward if they are ever dealing with a similar situation.
We will keep informing you as we learn more.
