Trump Administration cancels provisional residency permits for Salvadorians
YAKIMA Wash. -- The Trump administration announced their decision to eliminate the provisional residency permits for about 200 – thousand Salvadorians, leaving them to face deportation.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the Temporary Protected Status or TPS was given to Salvadorians in 2001, after earthquakes hit the country, so permits to stay in the United States were renewed every 18 months.
Salvadorians will now have until September 9th, 2019 to leave the country, or find another way to obtain a green card.
The Department of Homeland Security says they will work with the Department of State and the Government of El Salvador to help educate the people effected, and help make it an easier transition.
