Temporary lease for homeless shelter in Yakima is extended until June
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Transform Yakima Together’s temporary homeless shelter will stay at its current location through the summer.
The Yakima City Council approved a lease extension for the temporary homeless shelter that will last until June 30th.
Transform Yakima Together organizers have been fighting to make the temporary shelter on Englewood Avenue permanent, but there has been controversy with some neighbors not wanting the shelter in their community.
Executive Director for Transform Yakima says the new temporary lease will help give them time until a final decision is made on whether the shelter becomes permanent.
