Sunnyside stabbing victim dies; is now a murder case

SUNNYSIDE -- The King County Medical Examiner's office has confirmed a Sunnyside victim of a stabbing died last week.

The autopsy named the cause of death of 36-year-old Jason Michael Espinoza as multiple stab wounds.

Police found Jason Michael Espinoza lying in a parking lot at an apartment building at 216 S. 6th Street on the night of Nov. 20th with multiple stab wounds to his body.

At first, authorities said they believed he would recover from his injuries, but last week doctors declared him brain dead.

36-year-old Enrique Ramos de la Riva was arrested by police soon after the attack and charged with first degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Last week attorney's at the Yakima County Prosecutor's Office told KIMA if Espinoza died Ramos de la Riva's charges would be advanced to second degree murder.
