Scholarships offered for high school seniors involved in the community
WASHINGTON - The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is offering six $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors.
Each city throughout Washington can nominate one local senior to the AWC.
Here in Yakima, the scholarship is open to students in the Yakima School District and the West Valley School District.
In order to be considered you have to be a resident of Washington, graduating high school or receiving a GED in the spring or summer of 2018 and planning to continue your education in the 2018-2019 academic year.
The student also has to currently be involved in school or community leadership or city government.
“Every little bit helps when furthering an education," said Yakima Communications and Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler. "That $1,000 that's being awarded through this scholarship program speaks to what we're trying to foster and what the Association of Washington Cities is trying to foster which is active involvement in your community."
The scholarships will be awarded in the spring at the annual AWC conference which this year takes place right here in Yakima.
To apply, you can download an application from the city's homepage and turn your application into Beehler at City Hall. Applications are due February 16, 2018.
