Rapid landslide in Kittitas County causes Mohar Road closure
KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. - A landslide moving quickly Friday morning has caused Mohar Road southwest of Cle Elum to close, county leaders say.
The Public Works Department said the rapidly moving slide has forced the immediate closure at milepost 1.80 to milepost 2.01, the intersection of Mohar Road and Westside Road.
Officials said the stretch of road is dangerous as numerous trees could potentially fall on the road.
According to a press release, advanced closure notice is posted at the intersection of Mohar Road and Upper Peoh Point Road.
Roads are expected to remain closed for six to eight weeks, until professionals do a geotechnical evaluation of the land.
Leaders say utility companies are being informed in case service is lost to customers.
