Portion of Meyers road bridge to be demolished
TOPPENISH, Wash. -- Yakima County engineers say they're now planning on doing some demolition work at the bridge on Meyers Road in Toppenish. The bridge connecting Zillah to Toppenish just off exit 52 was washed out last week and remains closed to drivers.
County engineers hope the demo work will help stabilize the situation because of the ongoing erosion in the area, said Mark Cleaver, Yakima County Bridge Engineer. They will demolish an "undermined slab," said Cleaver.
The county is working on contract bids for the project so that another high water event doesn't cause worse damage.
County engineers are hoping for the demolition work to begin Friday.
