People can now use their surveillance cameras to help Yakima police
YAKIMA, Wash. - Police have introduced a free program for those who want to help officers solve crimes more quickly in Yakima.
The Yakima Police Department said the SafeCam program allows business owners, tenants and homeowners the opportunity to register their personal security cameras with the department.
They said SafeCam is designed to help solve crimes faster.
Police said participants will be able to check their security system for a specific date and time when a crime or incident occurred in the area.
YPD will not have access to the footage, but police said by providing information from the camera system, police will hopefully be able to solve crimes more quickly.
Those interested can register for SafeCam online by going to the police department's website or by stopping by the department at 200 South Third Street. Registration is free.
