Man wanted in child rape arrested at Ellensburg library
ELLENSBURG, Wash. - A man who deputies said was wanted in the rape of a young child has been arrested at the Ellensburg Public Library while he was attempting to flee to Michigan.
According to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, a task force unit arrested 43-year-old Oregon man Benjamin Walden Tuesday at the library for the rape and a vicious assault of a child back in July.
His warrant bail was set at $1.25 million due to the severity of the crime, deputies said.
Authorities said they had been searching for him since the incidents occurred, but he had been difficult to locate as he was recently seen in Auburn, Yakima and Ellensburg areas.
Upon investigation, a unit with the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force learned Walden was in the Ellensburg area Tuesday. The VOTF found and arrested the wanted man around 3:30 p.m. at the Ellensburg Public Library.
According to reports, Walden was on his way to Michigan.
Walden has been booked into Kittitas County Jail and he will later be brought back to Oregon for the warranted crimes.
