Sunnyside man found dead from gunshot wound to the chest
SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - A man is dead after the coroner said he was shot through his heart in a shooting in Sunnyside.
Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said Ramon Villalobos Jr., 23, of Sunnyside was shot to death Friday afternoon at his home in the 1400 block of West Madison Avenue, which he was renting with another man.
Sunnyside Police Commander Scott Bailey said police went to the area after they were called to reports of shots fired around 1 p.m.
Bailey said police were in the neighborhood Friday afternoon, knocking on doors asking people if they had heard fireworks or gunshots in the neighborhood. Police did not gather any evidence of a shooting.
The victim's family contacted police Saturday asking to do a welfare check at Villalobos' home out of concern for not hearing from him.
Police were able to make entry into his home through an unlocked back window and found Villalobos dead with a gunshot wound to his torso around 9 p.m.
Hawkins said an autopsy was performed on the victim Monday and confirmed he died from the gunshot to his chest which went through his heart.
Police are investigating this case as a homicide. Bailey said at this time, there are no suspects identified in this shooting.
Police say they are looking for one person who may be a witness or a possible victim to the crime. Police continue to collect evidence in this case.
