Man accused of stabbing dog in the lower valley appears in court
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. - A man who authorities say nearly stabbed a dog to death is now facing a judge.
Washington State Patrol responded to the incident 8:54, Wednesday morning at a scale house on State Route 97 to a find a woman covered in blood.
According to court documents, the woman told troopers her boyfriend stabbed her dog then ran away while they were heading home at SR 97 from the Goldendale area.
She said a Good Samaritan picked her up and left the pickup truck parked in the area of SR 97 near milepost 48, where the stabbing occurred.
Troopers investigated and found the dog on the road outside the truck, which was stained with blood, according to reports. They said the dog was breathing heavily and clinging to life.
Troopers took the hurt dog to the woman and troopers said she then brought the dog to a vet's office for treatment.
Authorities arrested Sammy Perakis as a suspect in this crime, according to documents.
Perakis is appearing in Yakima County Superior Court Thursday. He faces charges of first degree animal cruelty.
