Local man collecting blankets for nursing home
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- A local man is collecting blankets for a Sunnyside nursing home, he says in honor of his dad, who passed away in 2015.
Emilio Diaz says when his dad lived in a nursing home, during the holiday season, he'd pass out candy canes to everyone who lived there.
Now, Diaz wants to keep the tradition of giving going, by collecting blankets.
So far, he's been able to collect 45 blankets for Sunnyside Assisted Living, but he needs your help.
He’s trying to get 79 blankets, for every single person at the home, and he says he wants to make his dad proud.
“When he passed away, I went ahead and did a blanket drive, and we went door to door at the residence he was at, and again, just the simplest thing put a smile on their face,” said Diaz.
Diaz plans to make the blanket drive an annual tradition, by giving blankets to different nursing homes every year.
