Local family holding drunk driving awareness event
YAKIMA, Wash. - A local family holds an event each year to raise awareness about drunk driving, and the public is invited this weekend.
The Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) event this year focuses on first responders and the work they do for the Yakima Valley community.
Organizers say police, fire, the Sheriff's office, Washington State Patrol, the U.S. Army and other personnel will be at Sarg Hubbard Park giving public demonstrations of the roles they play in responding to and preventing drunk driving.
Matt Bartlett and his family put on this event because his dad was killed by a drunk driver in 2014.
Bartlett says it's a chance for people to learn more about first responders and promote awareness on what they do to save lives.
This event is free and open to the public.
Folks can stop by Sarg Hubbard Park Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Those interested in attending can check event updates here.
