House in Yakima burns to the ground Christmas night

YAKIMA, Wash. - Firefighters say a house in Yakima has burned to the ground Tuesday night, and the cause is unknown.

Firefighters said Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews were called to a house fire at the 1000 block of N. 6th Avenue around 8:42 p.m., to find a large fire and smoke coming from the two-story abandoned house.

According to reports, firefighters could see the blaze from four blocks away before arriving.

Crews worked to prevent the fire from reaching any nearby homes and businesses due to large flames and smoke.

Additional aid from the Yakima Training Center and the West Valley Fire Department were also called to the fire.

Firefighters said the house was completely destroyed, with the last of the free standing walls collapsing around 1:30, Wednesday morning.

YFD officials have not determined a cause for this fire.

Firefighters say this fire could have been the work of an arsonist and say they are pursuing persons of interest that may have been involved.
