Gates now open for 2018 Central Washington State Fair
YAKIMA Wa. -- People are out at the Central Washington State Fair right now enjoying all the attractions and food.
Gates opened today at noon for just one dollar entry and free parking for KIMA day.
Today marks the first day of the 126th Central Washington State Fair at the Yakima fairgrounds.
Parents, kids, teenagers and seniors all came out to experience the grand opening of the fair.
The kids were the most excited looking forward to their favorite attractions.
“I feel happy because I haven’t been at the fair in a long time,” said a kid.
“It is fun to go on rides but also its cool to look at some of the stuff that they have at the museums and stuff,” said another kid.
The grand opening included a ribbon cutting, greetings from friendly furry characters and some of us from KIMA.
Some of the most popular attractions this year include the new bug-o-logy exhibit, the return of the Alaskan Racing Pigs and of course everyone’s favorite elephant ears.
Floyd Williams has been coming to the fair for 30 years and he says this has now become a family traditions.
“I’ve been born and raised in Yakima and came every year with my family so now I’m bringing my niece for her first time and my one year old daughter for her first time,” said Williams.
Central Washington State Fair Spokesperson Rob Phillips says last year they had over 300,000 people come out to the fair and this year they are expecting to see the same amount.
“It’s just a real family fun place, there’s something for every age to do and food there’s all kinds of you know good and interesting foods, that’s the number one reason people come out to our fairs it’s for the foods,” said Phillips.
If you were not able to come out to the grand opening, people can still look forward to promotions and new attractions for next week.
The fair will be running through Sunday September 30th.
