Tieton woman dead after collision with school bus

Fire Department responds to crash involving a delivery truck and a school bus

COWICHE, Wash. - UPDATE: Washington State Troopers are reporting a Tieton woman is dead after she rear-ended a school bus Friday afternoon.

The accident happened just after 12:30 p.m. in the 16,000 block of Summitview Road near Elliot Road.

Troopers say the school bus had stopped to offload students when a Highland School District food truck driven by 46-year old Rosa Gutierrez-Salcedo from Tieton crashed into the back of the bus.

Gutierrez-Salcedo died at the scene.

No students or the school bus driver were injured.

Troopers say Gutierrez-Salcedo was wearing her seatbelt.

Troopers are still investigating to try to determine why Gutierrez-Salcedo didn't stop.

ORIGINAL STORY: Deputies are trying to figure what what caused a collision between a car and a school delivery truck.

Casey Schilperoort of Yakima County Sheriff's Office said the crash involved a small four-door car and a lunch truck at the intersection of Summitview Avenue and Thompson Road.

The sheriff's office received a report of the crash around 12:37 p.m., Friday.

The Fire Department is used Jaws of Life to remove a person who stuck inside the small vehicle as a result of the crash.

Roads are closed at the intersection of Sunset Way and Elliot Road and Summitview and Thompson while officials investigate.
