YAKIMA -- A fire has destroyed two mobile homes in Yakima Thursday morning.

The fire began at the trailer park on Gordon Road in Yakima just off North 1st Street. Fire crews responded the 911 calls of the fire just before 9 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters arrived to find one of the homes engulfed in flames which had spread to the neighboring home, according to reports from the Yakima Fire Department.

An update from the Yakima Police Department stated no one living at these mobile homes were inside when flames broke out.

Crews extinguished the blaze in roughly 20 minutes, but remained in the area to check for hidden flames and investigate what caused the fire to spark up. A fire crew from Selah responded to help check a nearby field for any embers.

Police said both homes were a total loss due to this fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the families that are now without a home.

It is undetermined what caused this fire, but YFD investigators said the cause appears to be accidental.

This is the same area of town where a number of suspicious fires have occurred over the last six months.
