Filipino World War Two Veterans honored

WAPATO, Wash.- Filipino veterans were recognized for their outstanding service and time spent fighting during World War II.

This is the fourth ceremony that honors the 260- thousand Filipino Americans that served and fought during that time.

21 U.S. Congressional Gold Medals, one of the highest civilian awards, were given to two living veterans and 19 family members of Filipino and American World War II veterans.

"I’m just thrilled and the happiest person. We have accomplished our mission after 75 years of Filipino Americans that fought in world war II," said Retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Oscar Hilman.

The U.S. Congress passed an act to recognize Filipino veterans during World War II, and Governor Jay Inslee declared this month to honor them in the state of Washington.
