Ellensburg man arrested for woman's murder
ELLENSBURG -- The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says it has arrested 25-year-old Christopher Almaral of Ellensburg for the murder of Stephanie Curtis.
Curtis's body was found the morning of January 7th near milepost 21 or SR 281 about 4 miles south of Ellensburg. She had been shot to death.
Detectives say the investigation led them to several businesses in Yakima County where security footage put the victim and Almaral together the night before her body was found.
The Kittitas Sheriff's Office also says investigators used traffic video to track Almaral's vehicle and see it entering and leaving Ellensburg in the early morning hours between the time the victim went missing and her body was found.
The Sheriff's Office says a search of Almaral's vehicle and home found a .38 caliber handgun and a sawed of shotgun. Investigators say the handgun is consistent with the victims wounds and the bullets recovered from her body.
Almaral is under arrest and facing charges for 1st degree murder.
Undersheriff Clay Myers says, "This case was solved as a result of multiple law enforcement agencies, members of the public and business owners providing cooperation and assistance to the Sheriff's Detectives, with a special thanks to the Yakima Police Department for their support. It's both humbling and an honor to work with people this dedicated to the safety of our community."
