Eisenhower senior named National Merit semi-finalist
YAKIMA, Wash. - One local high school student has been named a National Merit semi-finalist and will be checking his mail next month to see if he becomes a finalist.
Nathan Yee is a senior at Eisenhower High School and is the only student in the Yakima area to be named a semi-finalist.
Students qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program through their scores on the PSAT.
Yee said he prepared for the test and is excited to see his work pay off.
"Well, financially I could use the money, college is expensive," he said. "It would also mean that basically I'd be qualified as one of the better students I suppose of my year and so that alone is a great confidence booster I think going into college."
Yee plans to attend Williams College in Massachusetts, study mathematics and someday work as an artificial intelligence researcher.
