Driver in high-speed police chase says he was late for work


YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. - A man speeding trying get to work soon turned into a high-speed chase according to Yakima Sheriff's deputies.

Deputies noticed the man traveling west on Highway 12 speeding at nearly 100 miles an hour.

When authorities attempted to pull over the car, they said the driver nearly doubled the speed limit trying to escape law enforcement.

The chase ended when the driver tried making a sharp turn and rammed into a tree knocking it over.

Deputies say the driver claimed he was late for work and got scared when he saw them behind him.
