YAKIMA, Wash. -- Firefighters say a dog is missing, after a Yakima home caught on fire.

The fire started early this morning, in the 4600 block of Hilltop Way.

The Yakima Fire Department was still on the scene in the early afternoon, with an excavator, moving debris and hosing down the area, trying to fully extinguish the fire.

Firefighters say the two people living there managed to escape the fire, unharmed.

“One of the occupants stated sometime around one-thirty, two o’clock, they heard a window break, a whole bunch of crackling type of noise, got up, realized the house was on fire; a substantial amount of fire, and immediately got the rest of the occupants out of the house,” said Yakima Fire Captain Jeremy Rodriguez.

They say two of three dogs that were living at the home are safe, but one is still unaccounted for.

Firefighters say the home is a total loss with about $700,000 worth of damage done.

They say the cause of the fire is currently unknown, but is not believed to be suspicious.

    No firefighters were injured.
