YAKIMA Wash -- Community members are working together to create safer neighborhoods in the Yakima and Kittitas counties.

According to a press release, Heritage University and the Dispute Resolution Center are forming community response teams to create safer and more peaceful communities.

Each team will have 16 members which represent elected officials, law enforcements, neighborhood activists and students.

The goal is for each team to respond to crises by offering active listening, meditation and conflict resolutions strategies.

Training sessions for some team members took place this month.
