Camp Hope moves from their former location temporarily
YAKIMA Wa. -- The temporary homeless shelter Camp Hope will be moving to a new location.
The shelter will move from its former location behind Kmart on East Nob Hill Boulevard to the Union Gospel Mission parking lot.
City Spokesperson Randy Beehler says the shelter is under an agreement with the city which requires it to be moved around every six months so it can be temporary.
“The exemptions that are in state law for faith based organizations, it allows them to operate a temporary homeless facility and not have to comply with certain land use regulations that they would have to if they operated a permanent camp," said Beehler.
The shelter will be moving for two weeks from December 1st to the 15th before going back to the Kmart location.
