15-year-old killed in Toppenish shooting

TOPPENISH, Wash. - A 15-year-old is dead after the coroner said he was shot multiple times in Toppenish.

Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said Joshua Owens, a registered tribal member, was found to have multiple gunshot wounds to the torso after a shooting around 11:30 p.m., Sunday at the 100 block of North A Street.

Authorities said people approached the victim and opened fire, hitting Owens multiple times.

The teen was rushed to Astria Regional Medical Center in Yakima where he died around 1:30 a.m. Monday, according to reports.

Hawkins said Owens bled to death.

Yakama Tribal Police and the FBI are investigating this case.

This is the 22nd homicide this year for Yakima County.
