Suspects appear in Yakima County court for murder for hire plot
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. —
A Richland man and Kennewick woman made their first appearances in Yakima County Superior Court on Monday after Sheriff's deputies say they tried to hire someone to kill the woman's ex-husband.
John Feher, 49, and Heather Walbridge, 33, are accused of attempted murder. Deputies say they tried to hire what turned out to be an undercover Yakima officer to kill Walbridge's ex-husband.
Court records say the suspects gave the officer the victim's personal information and were going to give the officer a key and garage opener to get into the victim's home. Investigators then received warrants to listen to the phone calls between the suspects and said there was enough evidence to make arrests.
"It's a tremendous relief for us, I mean the cases don't get much bigger than this when somebody's life hangs in the balance of how well you do, so we're extremely gratified," said Sgt. Mike Russell with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office. "There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they would've killed him."
Deputies say the couple wanted to have the man killed in the next few days or weeks and were offering money. They believe the motive surrounded Walbridge's divorce with the victim and ongoing court issues between them.
YCSO doesn't want to give further details at this time on how the undercover officer came in contact with the suspects, besides a tip that came in about the murder for hire plot.
