Local swim meet attracts swimmers throughout Northwest
TOPPENISH, Wash. - The Wine Country Open is an annual swim meet in Toppenish sponsored by YAC swimming.
This year beautiful weather along with great competitive swimming helped make this event a success and it's a great way to kick off the summer.
This three day event featured swimmers ranging from age groups of eight and under to 15 and over.
Swimmers from all over the Pacific Northwest have been participating in this event for over 30 years.
Ella Van Trobe of Naches competes in the 15 and over, representing YAC swimming.
"I've been competing at Wine Country since I was six, so this is my tenth year competing," Van Trobe said.
Van Trobe finished first in the 200 meter individual medley at this year's meet and while she hopes to swim at the college level someday, she really enjoys competing at Wine Country each and every year.
"It's a really fun environment to make friends and compete and it's just like a good environment for everyone and it's like a really family friendly environment," Van Trobe said.
Great competition and a family friendly environment is what the Wine Country Open is all about, if you missed out on this year's swim meet you'll definitely want to check it next summer.
