First Tee Getting Young Golfers Started
SELAH, Wa - The First Tee of Yakima, great stuff for kids on the course, now, a course in school.
Whit and Ty right on target. The two ten year olds test driving Selah Intermediate School's new equipment. The cash for First Tee training gear donated by longtime coaches and sports supporters in Selah: Brian and Bill Harris.
"We're so excited for this program, it builds skills for golf," Dawn Gunner said. "And, it also brings in the all-important character accounts."
Enough new launchers, targets, balls and tees to equip thirty five to twelve year olds who'll be learning character building life skills and the fundamentals of this great game in the gym through the First Tee National School Program.
"Give all the kids in Selah an opportunity to have a touch with golf through their P.E. program," Mollie Thola said. "And, we're hoping through that program that they will go to the green grass and come see me outside."
The First Tee of Yakima summer programs start in just a few weeks.
460 kids were involved in the program in 2015 and they aim to top the 500 mark this year.
