M's Fall to Astros
HOUSTON, Tx - After a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles at Safeco Field over the weekend the Seattle Mariners bats went cold in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on Monday afternoon.
US Gymnast Simone Biles threw out the first pitch and did so in style.
In the second inning, with Seattle trailing 1-0, Dae-Ho Lee's long single to right drove home Kyle Seager to tie the game.
But George Springer's solo homer in the fifth gave Houston a 2-1 lead.
The M's had the bases loaded with nobody out in the seventh, but Lee hit into a double play and Adam Lind lined out to left to end the threat.
Starting pitcher Wade Miley pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just the two runs on seven hits.
The Mariners and Astros will play again on Tuesday night in the second game of the three-game series, game time scheduled for 5:10 p.m.
