Felix Set for Rehab Assignment
SEATTLE, Wa - Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez will pitch in a rehab assignment this Sunday for the M's Short Season-A club in Everett.
Hernandez, who has been on the DL since June 1 with a strained right calf, will pitch four innings with a 60 pitch limit.
If all goes well on Sunday, Hernandez will pitch in another rehab assignment on Friday, July 15 with the Mariners' Triple-A team in Tacoma.
The Mariners hope to activate Hernandez from the DL and have him start on July 20 on the road against the Chicago White Sox.
Hernandez, 30, is 4-4 this season with a 2.86 E.R.A. in 10 starts but he struggled in his last start before going on the DL; he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings against the Minnesota Twins at Safeco Field on May 27.
The Mariners (43-41) are currently in third place in the AL West, 9 1/2 games behind the Texas Rangers and 2 1/2 games behind in the Wild Card race.
Hernandez will be a key player for the Mariners in the second half as they hope to make the postseason for first time since winning 116 games in 2001.
