Yakima Pays Tribute to Leahy
YAKIMA, Wa - Cheers and tears on this St. Patrick's Day as we celebrate the life of one of our favorite Yakima Valley Irishman.
To say Jim Leahy is a little Irish is like saying they like Notre Dame football just a little bit in South Bend.
Where Jim was born into one of the most famous of all Fighting Irish families. Jim, the son of legendary football coach Frank Leahy, who's Irish won four national championships.
Frank, played for Knute Rockne. Jim played offensive lineman for Ara Parseghian on a 1966 Notre Dame team that went undefeated and won the national title.
Jim and wonderful Nancy Leahy's son Ryan, a Fighting Irish football captain. Son Pat, a pitcher at Notre Dame. And, daughter Regan, a track and field standout at North Carolina.
This past Friday Holy Family in Yakima was filled with many of Jim's friends.
Many of them in this community where he made his mark as a successful businessman dedicating his volunteer life to local kids sports activities. He was a great father, grandfather and a great guy, Jim Leahy was 70 years old.
